** Personal First
This was one surprising evening of Indian DX. 21 personal firsts!
As I reported in my log from 2016-10-23, today's log has only come about thanks to an alert from Paul Logan in Northern Ireland, who had been DXing mobile with a 200 foot longwire antenna. He reported many Indian signals across medium wave around 1715 - 1720 hours. I would have missed these completely had it not been for his report to the Yahoo group. I had written off the 25th as a dead loss due to the geomagnetic disturbance, but I had only spot-checked the tops of the hours for DX. So, when I checked around 1715, I was very pleased to find quite a few Indian transmitters myself. As some people say "Note to self" ... Must check between the hours in future :O)
AIR 1080 and 1134 didn't make it through.
This may be the first time some of the above frequencies have been reported in the UK. These have been marked with a "#".
Good DX!

Indian MW stations have been on my 'to do' list for a number of years and I did not expect to hear much. I wouldn't have known anything about 747, above, had it not been for the alert from Simon Beavan in South Wales, so it's all thanks to him. When I heard the strength of this signal, I couldn't help but wonder why I've never heard this signal before. I've often looked for it. But that's the attraction of this amazing hobby. Video here: https://youtu.be/zBiVDDoL1SU
I am very much behind with loggings again so it's yet another instance of me playing catch-up. I am typing this on the 26th and I can report hearing more Indian transmitters on MW during the late afternoon of the 25-10-16. This time, it's all thanks to an alert from Paul Logan in Northern Ireland. I would have missed these completely had it not been for his report to the Yahoo group. I had written off the 25th as a dead loss due to the geomagnetic disturbance, but I had only checked the tops of the hours. When I did a quick check around 1715, the time Paul heard India on several frequencies, I heard quite a few transmitters myself. So I need to check this recording more thoroughly, but I will be away from the radio for long periods for the next day or two so I can't devote much time to checking the recordings, however, if anybody still has files from the late afternoon of the 25th, it should be worth checking them. My hard drives are all full too, so I am quite stuffed for the time being.

This is a catch-up with my loggings again. My main hard drive decided to die just after my 1700 recording. So, what happened to my 1700 recording? The coax cable from my flag antenna decided to fall apart less than a minute before the top of the hour.
A new 500GB hard drive was bought and installed the following day, but that came hand-in-hand with the expected problems of installing Windows 7. I think I now know why it's called Windows '7', because that's the exact number of times I had to install it before it finally worked correctly! It wouldn't even accept the product key at one stage. Yet this is my own 'bought', i.e. 'paid for' Windows 7. While good when it was first released back in the late 00s, this version of Windows has become the biggest pile of shite I have known. It's almost as bad as Windows 98! and that's saying something. XP was my favourite and I doubt Micro$$$oft will bring out anything else in the future which will equal that. Windows 7 is great if you can avoid that service pack and all those damn updates. Beyond that, it just isn't the same.
A few bits and pieces:
Funny that 1575 VOA Thailand fires up on the same afternoon as CRI's Russian service resumes transmissions on 1521. Coincidence? Or is this the start of a new broadcasting quarter?
There seems to be some kind of re-organisation of the programmes, or at least in the ID sequences I hear from China lately. I probably wouldn't have been aware of this quite so quickly had it not been mentioned on the RealDX forum. Those familiar Chinese time signals are not always present on the usual frequencies, so it's easy to assume that conditions aren't allowing them through, but that's not necessarily the case since I have heard Chinese on those frequencies, but without their time signals. Perhaps these stations are carrying more of their own local or regional programming now.
Another observation about those familiar Chinese time signals: When I do hear them, they are now appearing more randomly 'around' the top of the hour. Over the last year or two, they were just about spot on to the very top of the hour.

After some very unsettled conditions, it was very pleasing to hear Bangladesh again, this time with much better signals on 819, allowing two identifications to be heard clearly. But I was blown away when I heard their interval signal behind BBC Radio 5 Live on 693. Bangladesh Betar on 693 is a potential UK first.
This concludes a week of exceptional Asiatic DX and a week in which I identified four new countries: Oman; Pakistan; Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Good DX!

Better North American conditions today. Although not logged here, Greenland was well received on 570 and 650, the latter was quite strong shortly after local midnight.
I think I heard 680 KBRW Barrow AK around 0100 but I couldn't fully nail it down. I heard music and chat which appeared to be in parallel with their web stream, but 680 was a jumble of stations with CFTR dominating and WRKO chipping in at times.
