The Scientists Are Wrong!

Based on a recent NASA article about this year's earlier appearance of noctilucent clouds, speculation has been mounting about a possible correlation between these and the unusually early start to the sporadic E season. As DXers, we know this is not the case.

The reason for this year's vigourous Es season has been largely due to the massive summer hit "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk. Haven't you noticed the enormous amount of airplay this song has when there is an opening? It's more than coincidence that this song is playing constantly on every single radio station when the Es are present.

Professor Bodd Foxe of the University of Wallamaloo has studied these effects and concludes that the song exhibits certain vibrational effects which could be heating up the ionosphere. It was initially thought that only DXers with super-high gain equipment living on the east coast of Australia would be able to hear this, but signals have been so strong that ordinary, less well placed DXers have been able to enjoy frequent sporadic E event too.

DXers should be aware of the claim of intense Es in February of this year, made by south coast DXer Dick Farlon, reporting reception of Pakistan on band 2. Columbia Records were quick to point out that the Daft Punk single hadn't been released at that time.

We are looking forward with great anticipation to the next single from Daft Punk called "This Is The Best Medium Wave DX Season Ever", due to be released at the autumnal equinox. We wish them every success with that.

Thanks to Daft Punk, it looks like we are all Getting Lucky with the DX this year!

  1. If you really want to Get Lucky with the DX you need this version:

    Verse 1:
Like the legend of the E-skip
    All ends with beginnings
What makes the Es keep givin'?
Who knows but we're all hopin'

    Hook:
    We've come too far
To not log things so far
    So let's raise the mast
And our twigs to the stars
She's up all night to the sun
I'm up all night to get some
She's up all night for good logs
I'm up all night to get loggin'
We're up all night 'til the sun
We're up all night to get some
We're up all night for good logs
We're up all night to get loggin' (x5)

    Verse 2:
    The present has no E-skip
The Es they keep on slippin'
    What is this I'm doin'?
I need to log so keep listenin',

    Hook:

    Bridge:
We’re up all night to get (x4)
We’re up all night to get double-hop now!
    We’re up all night (let’s get double-hop!)
We’re up all night to get lucky
We’re up all night to get loggin'
We’re up all night to get loggin' (x8)

    Hook

    Outro x4
We're up all night to get loggin'

  2. Very good! :O)

I wonder if this will start a trend Nick - DXing songs! I remember a Canadian DXer used to adapt songs into DX themes back in the 80s and actually perform them. A lot of thought was put into those too. Can you work out which song this was?

We can DX if we want to.
We can leave your friends behind.
Cause your friends don't DX and if they don't DX,
well they're no friends of mine.

I'll try and think of the others. It would be good to get the man himself here.
