Körner 9.2 Antenna

Some recent photographs of the Körner 9.2 Antenna at full height. Part of an experiment to determine if there is any real difference in overall performance when the antenna is at its maximum height and when it is lowered due to the windy nature of this coastline. The full article of this will be posted in the next few days. (OK, it wasn't. Three months later and I still haven't done this!)

  2. Hi Damien.

    Yes. Observations all written down and article written a couple of weeks ago. Lack of time, etc. I just need to check through everything and post. It's a simple look at signals from Belmont,Tacolneston and Peterborough, with the antenna raised and then lowered. Nothing technical, you know me :O) Plus, the outcome is probably what you would expect anyway.

    Hopefully later this evening.

    Cheers!

    1. Checking through the notes, Damien, I still have a few readings to take, which I will have to do tomorrow or later in the week. It's almost ready to post.

  3. Damien - I just took what I thought were going to be the final readings and something doesn't add up.

    This comparison was only meant to give me a very approximate idea to see if I would really benefit by raising the antenna just two metres or so. The results are probably hardly worth writing about, but the discrepancy I found is interesting. I really need to take some proper antenna plot, which I can do with the Konrad XDR-GTK software.

    The readings I took this evening show the antenna is not performing properly at the lowered height, which is to be expected. It will be the same with most domestic antennas as they really perform best when they are several wavelengths away from the nearest objects. Rooftops and nearby trees can impact on antenna performance, even from several metres away.

    More research is needed, but I should be able to conduct a proper assessment next week as I am planning a 'radio week', all being well.

  4. Well, so much for raising the antenna. I enjoyed my radio week, most of which was spent with fellow DXer and good friend Ian Kelly. We mostly went out hilltopping. I was hoping to raise the antenna all week but the wind gusts were still quite alarming. I have never known a summer like this.

    The winds have eased down today so, if things stay this calm tomorrow, I will raise the antenna. I really need to do this as the comparison will be interesting.

    Almost there! :O}
