Meteor activity is still infrequent, but still one or two very interesting catches getting through. I don't recall seeing Espy FM logged anywhere before. I uploaded a video of this but the audio is missing. You can still see the PI and radiotext though: http://youtu.be/5dTEC2pksus
I have been experiencing lots of problems with Bandicam lately. I purchased this a while ago but the licence only allows you to run one copy and that one is registered to the laptop, which I am not using at the moment. Since I found out what was causing the interference when using my main desktop computer (the router) I have been using this. The free bandicam only allows you to use it so many times before you have to reinstall it. Every time I reinstall it there is something it has not remembered from the previous installation, such as the sound card settings.
For now, I am now trying a trial version of Microsoft Expression Encoder 4. It seems very good so far but not as simple to operate as Bandicam. Early tests are very good and with better definition than Bandicam. I also tried to install the latest Camstudio yesterday but that won't even install anymore. That Windows re-installation is looming ever closer!

A small amount of meteor activity again overnight. My late evening session was an attempt to boost the log but this only produced some of the more regular Czech and Slovak transmitters.
I was pleased to receive Radio Studio 1 as this may further confirm my reception of the Cesena transmitter on 100.8 from the 1st. Several Italian stations were audible on adjacent frequencies during this four second burst, the next most strongest of which was on 93.4, which didn't produce RDS but was strong enough.
I strongly doubt that the France Musique transmitter on 98.6 was not Chambery as there was nothing from France Bleu Isère on 99.1 (the same site). This leaves the 1kW Alès transmitter as the next possibility in terms of power. Other than that this would be an even lower powered transmitter. No other services existed in the 6 MHz recording range to provide any other back-up.

Also please excuse the boast but, for the record, I now only need 25 frequencies to 'complete the set' so to speak, that is to say that I need to identify a station via meteor scatter on just 25 more frequencies and I will have logged something on every band 2 frequency, something I never thought would have been possible. It was only a few weeks ago when I needed at least 70 or 80 frequencies. The sudden increase is down to using the Elad FDM-S2 and its stunning RDS performance.

Also please excuse the boast but, for the record, I now only need 25 frequencies to 'complete the set' so to speak, that is to say that I need to identify a station via meteor scatter on just 25 more frequencies and I will have logged something on every band 2 frequency, something I never thought would have been possible. It was only a few weeks ago when I needed at least 70 or 80 frequencies. The sudden increase is down to using the Elad FDM-S2 and its stunning RDS performance.

Excuse a little bit of repetition again, just to give a more complete picture of the meteor activity.
Some new catches again, but here's an unusual one. A test tone of 400 Hz was heard at 0227 on the following frequencies: 87.6, 88.1, 88.5, 88.9, 89.0, 89.2/3, 89.5, 89.9, 90.5, 90.6, 90.7, 90.8, 91.2, 91.7, 91.8 & 92.1. I wonder who these belong to. Surprised to hear so many at the same time.

Does anybody know anything about Radio Sabbia 100.8? I have never heard of this station. Its power is not specified so one for Franco? I was wondering if this is reasonably high powered, or a genuine 'local' station? It seems quite an exotic catch, but I suspect there may be more power involved than we might imagine.

As I have mentioned before, It is possible, in some cases, to work out the exact transmitter site you are receiving, even when there might be multiple transmitters on one frequency. This becomes clearer over time. The SDR allows you to check other services from the same transmitter, providing they are in the frequency range recorded. A recent case of interest has been SR P1 on 87.6, where I have often seen this logged in the UK as being the Visby transmitter. While I have no doubt that Visby is very likely since it is one of the three high power SR P1 transmitters of on 87.6, I have been surprised by the fact that I have only ever knowingly received the Storuman transmitter here. Today I was able to confirm the Hudiksvall transmitter on 87.6, but Visby still remains elusive.
Another example of the above is Evropa 1 on 105.5 which until today has always been the Votice transmitter. Today I was treated to the Brno transmitter instead. It just shows that we can't always assume we have the right site.

I had no idea there was any tropo the previous evening and only realised at 02:45. It then dawned on me, I could easily make a quick snapshot of the band, recording one minute sessions of each 6MHz block of the band for later perusal. That's five blocks in total, or four and a half to be more precise. Then I would just let the S2 carry on recording after that.
The tropo extended out to Garz on the north coast of Germany, to Magdeburg and Wittenburg, the latter being a new one for me. The S2 allowed me to dig really deeply into the stations using 25 or 50 kHz bandwidths. This actually helps dig out the German DX due to them having narrow bandwidth. I kept my eye on 94.0 for a while as there were three German stations there. SWR2 had classical music. Then there was pops, probably Radio Ostfriesland. But there was also a German talker. Perhaps the 100 watt DLF from Hannover. No DLF parallels were available in this section of the band unfortunately and I was not listening live otherwise I would have checked their web stream.
There wasn't much meteor scatter around overnight. A lot of it might have been blocked by the tropo, which was quite strong at times, mainly the Torfhaus, Brocken, Steinkimmen and Teutoburger Wald transmitters.

I had no idea there was any tropo the previous evening and only realised at 02:45. It then dawned on me, I could easily make a quick snapshot of the band, recording one minute sessions of each 6MHz block of the band for later perusal. That's five blocks in total, or four and a half to be more precise. Then I would just let the S2 carry on recording after that.
The tropo extended out to Garz on the north coast of Germany, to Magdeburg and Wittenburg, the latter being a new one for me. The S2 allowed me to dig really deeply into the stations using 25 or 50 kHz bandwidths. This actually helps dig out the German DX due to them having narrow bandwidth. I kept my eye on 94.0 for a while as there were three German stations there. SWR2 had classical music. Then there was pops, probably Radio Ostfriesland. But there was also a German talker. Perhaps the 100 watt DLF from Hannover. No DLF parallels were available in this section of the band unfortunately and I was not listening live otherwise I would have checked their web stream.
There wasn't much meteor scatter around overnight. A lot of it might have been blocked by the tropo, which was quite strong at times, mainly the Torfhaus, Brocken, Steinkimmen and Teutoburger Wald transmitters.
