Even more great conditions to the far east!

Thanks to the guys at Real DX for listening to my recordings I have bagged a few goodies this afternoon. For a while now I have been wondering what the little top of the hour jingle ID is I sometimes hear on 891. When I heard the same jingle today on 1017 and 1296 I had to do some further investigation. After posting my recording of the jingle, Mika and Mauno replied to confirm the jingle belonged to the BCC in Taiwan.

So I found a web stream of the BCC News Network and recorded their top of the hour. This was what I heard: https://app.box.com/s/audoygm2f8rdqy2lzk8z Note that cute little jingle. It penetrates the noise well in the same way a weak CW signal would. Now get your headphones on (you may need them) and listen to my recordings of the same jingle on 891, 1017 and 1296 respectively: https://app.box.com/s/2nsg32mkbluy8qk4yhsc Tricky, but clearly(ish ;O) the same jingle. Luckily, there is only one BCC Network station on each of the three frequencies. 819 and 1296 are the same site too.

Going back to the power interruptions which affected my 1700 file from the 25th, I discovered that Rapidshare still accept large file size uploads, which is a good job as this one is over a GB in size! This is the link - http://rapidshare.com/share/12BCF0A09A9E01C795EF45EA2676AEEB if anybody wants to listen to the file.

Finally, does anybody know where the TWR site is on 1287? I don't see this listed.

Good DX!

More good conditions to the far east.

Very annoyingly, we suffered a power failure (we have several a week here out in the sticks) a few seconds after 1700 which damaged the SDR file. The file is still completely playable though (phew!) with the top of the hour section intact, but Wavchopper is unable to chop down the file because of the damage. So the remaining file is almost 600MB in size and I would love to upload this to a file storage site but I cannot find one which will allow such large files. If anybody knows of one please let me know asap as I would really like to archive this file.

The following might be worth further investigation:

702 1700 25-10-13: Chinese time signal and ID at 15 seconds.
https://app.box.com/s/zhogg5nnbtmk8payrl8v

1359 1700 25-10-13: Chinese OM and music. Time signals. YL echoey ID at 55 seconds.
https://app.box.com/s/gg1zt50zi3a29igjccto

1413 JOIF Fukuoka 1655 25-10-13. I just want somebody to listen to the recording and confirm this is really what I am hearing. I have no doubt in my mind but I find I keep pinching myself about the reception of Japan here.
https://app.box.com/s/8bq8vuaqcqlptuvwk8mz

Finally, these two are very weak. It has been suggested that 720 could be North Korea and 729 Vietnam. I can just imagine I am hearing the North Korean national anthem on 720. They are too weak for comfort however.

Some rough notes on other Asiatic DX. "Long pip" refers to those time signals used in the far east which could refer to South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc. and I include these just to show the amount of Asiatic DX which was coming in yesterday. Any audio was just that bit too weak for identification. I have cross-referenced them with the audio heard on Asiatic SDR files from Finland just to confirm I am on the right track with these.

Quite a different afternoon. I think JOIF was audible on 1413 again at 1500 but it was much weaker than yesterday. China was more in evidence this time. Urumqi 1521 back up in strength (and just a tad stronger my local than BBC Lincolnshire on 1368!) plus several other presumed/tentative outlets from Urumqi.

Three recordings of Xinjiang RGD below but I think only the third one contains the ID, which sounds like "Xinjiang Jenmin Guangbo Tientai" to me. Somebody might wish to correct my spelling.

My First Japanese Reception!

Fukuoka City, Japan
Fukuoka City, Japan

Japan has always been a difficult country to receive in the UK, however, I 'dared' to assume that I would probably receive it one day because my east coast location gives me an extra lift in towards the far east.

Despite living on the east coast for three years however I was beginning to think it was never going to happen. Chinese signals come through in abundance at home on my northerly flag and especially on the BOG (Beverage On the Ground) I occasionally lay out in the marshlands of The Wash, just a few miles down the coast. Nothing! Just a few vague time signals which could have easily been Korean or Taiwanese.

This changed today when JOIF Fukuoka came in on 1413 kHz, but had it not been for the eagle-eared Paul Logan in Northern Ireland, I would never have known what I had missed. I had posted a link to my Perseus SDR file for 1700 to the SkywavesDX group. Paul missed two stations I had overlooked. One of which was JOIF. Click on the link below to hear how it sounded:

To think, I completely overlooked this. I was actually trying to hear what was happening underneath this signal, assuming it was just a European station. I have a rough idea of what Japanese sounds like too.

After posting a recording if this to the Real DX group I received a confirmation from member Hirpyuki Okamura that the language was Japanese. "O-Dori - No All Night Niiphon" was spoken which is a networked programme from 1242 JOLF. Although no local ID was heard there's nothing else this could be. JOIF is the only station from Japan on 1413.

My best afternoon of Asiatic DX ever - and this includes my BOG trips just down the coast.

Japan is a new country here and one I have never heard domestically, other than on short wave. I think there were other Japanese and Korean signals in too but the vocals were never clear enough to be certain.

HLAZ 1566 was good at times. Long time no hear for this one and it's the first time I have heard it at home in Skegness.
