Firstly, my recent MS DX attempts with the Perseids meteor shower. Shame about the number of muilti-tx possibilities. and secondly, a recent scan to look for new Dutch network stations.

  1. Why did you delete my comment does the truth hurt you don't mind when it is yourself giving out the verbal abuse you should be utterly ashamed and the group should be embarrassed to call you a member Jason

  2. Hello Jason. I was debating whether to delete your comment before. This time however, I will leave it here. So I don't have the right to an opinion? You just gave yours? That is our right though. Some people frustrate me greatly and I feel the need to speak out for what I believe is right. I felt the need to make my recent comments publicly. Why? Because I felt that the person in question, who clearly feels the need to feel superior above everybody else (you should see his behaviour in the chat rooms) needed to be cut down a peg or two. Do I have the right to do that? Well, I admit that tact is not my middle name sometimes but I believe in freedom of speech. I speak my mind and believe people should have that right. Back to you.

  3. I was member of skywaves for a long time and you have the freedom to abuse members at will the latest one ( before they were removed ) was not the first and i did not see anything wrong with the comment that you felt the need to give abuse . A world wide dx group is not the place to make your point and when you are around the whole group is walking on egg shells and after events that has happened in the group you are making the group a bigger joke than it already is . I am AUSSIE and proud does that offend you i have no problem with that type of description and i wouldn't abuse anyone over it Jason

  4. You, sir, are clearly deluded. If you are proud to be an "Aussie" then I am very happy for you. How can one be proud to be a nationality though? I can never understand that. Surely people can be proud of their achievements or of their children, etc. But to be proud of a country always leaves me feeling a little confused. I am happy for you anyway.

Your comments and opinions are valid and quite fair too. I detect a little anger though. You have the right to your opinions, as we all do. Maybe I shouldn't use the group to vent my frustration. Agreed.

Let's see now. I presume you are referring to a DXer on the English south coast. For your information, that person's loggings were under scrutiny for about three years, but Skywaves, being such a tolerant group, gave him the benefit of the doubt. But it became clear to many people that something wasn't right. Not only that, but the methods used by that person were nothing short of scheming and devious. Traps were set and he walked right into them.

I have already discussed my outbursts on Skywaves. I am not proud of them and feel quite ashamed. But please tell me, sir, that you have never been in the situation where you have become so frustrated by something that you didn't blow up, at least inside your head? Answer my question.

  5. No sir i was referring to comments you made about slang terms referring to locations, jumping to conclusions again are we sir . Try taking a deep breath then count to 5 better than making a fool of yourself and the group . This is my last comment you can continue to live in your deluded little world . Jason ( ICDX is a dx group that will NEVER tolerate a member like you )

  6. You and Skywaves are a laughing stock.
The only reason you aren't banned from it is that you're mates with the list co-owner who was at your
wedding a couple of weeks ago.
Anyone else would have been well and truly banned...Your posts now aren't even moderated...How long till the next outburst when you're having a bad day yet again...it just goes round in a cycle...

  7. You know nothing about "regionalist" attitudes in our country Jason. Many people find them quite offensive. Only today I heard about newspaper headline in a southern newspaper which supposedly stated "Man Up North Buys TV". It's become a joke here and one which many people find offensive. Our wonderful media tell us that we have an ever-increasing north-south divide, so it is a real issue for some people. If you knew that particular person and how racist, anti-disabled, anti-everything and obnoxious he is you would understand why I spouted off. No, I am not exaggerating. He is highly offensive and has upset many people. We can do without people like that in our hobby. I don't spout without a good reason.

So, rightly or wrongly, I actually feel I was justified in my spout. I have already said what I did is not clever and I feel a degree of shame in my actions, but THAT is who I am and if YOU don't like it, sir, then that is YOUR problem.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The ridiculous thing is the person who used the word "Brummie" which for some demented reason you find offensive
    comes from Birmingham..himself.

You only have these ridiculous outbursts on Skywaves because you know you will never get banned by your mate!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree people have been banned for much less it must be great to have a free reign knowing that your mate will never ban you but please continue i find it hilarious when you have a breakdown in front of the world

    ReplyDelete
  10. LOL. I know exactly who your are then. Maybe this follows the logic used by black people who used to find the word "nigger" offensive. I am sure many still do. They say it was incorporated into rap music so people would get used to it and therefore be less bothered by it. I can understand that viewpoint.

The problem comes when people use it offensively, like yourself. There is no need. People like you promote everything offensive. I can only guess that this might be to feel better about any inadequacies you may feel yourself, when you should be promoting the hobby and at least attempting to be pleasant towards people less fortunate than yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lol. Yes, I have to admit it probably looks hilarious. I already said I can be childish. But look at your comments. There is lot to be read into the words you write. Mates? It's nice to have mates who will stand up for you.

Here are the facts. I have mates. I also have enemies. But I believe there is a healthy balance between the two. and let me tell you, think what you like, I most certainly do NOT have a free reign. By this I think you see me as thinking I am the Ruler. I gave up any position of 'rule' several years ago when Rittman took it over. I considered I lacked the time to run the group, but also I knew I was becoming too grumpy and perhaps even unfit to be in control of such a large and, yes, highly successful group.

    3. I have no interest in being a member of a group with an ever-decreasing membership and one run by THAT little Hitler. Some of you there no doubt enjoy being part of your own little self-important empire where all your chums can big-up each other to your heart's content. Oh, and that's *NOT* referring to all members there of course. It's an old cliche, but always stands true: There is good and bad everywhere.

Why not just sit back, take a breath and enjoy the hobby. Or maybe having a go and making threats is all you are capable of.

  14. Although schizophrenia affects people in different ways, there are recognised signs and symptoms that people may experience, for example:

    • The person may hold false and often unusual beliefs with unshakeable conviction. For example, someone might fear that he or
she is being watched or followed by another who wants to control or do them harm. These beliefs are called delusions.

The person may say very little and rarely initiate a conversation. They may speak in a way that will seem muddled and illogical, conveying little meaning. They may think or act in a way that cannot easily be understood. He or she may become uncharacteristically hostile

    SOUND FAMILIAR

  15. Looks like you have me sussed.

Reasons people like to remain anonymous on the internet:

The internet is a great place. There is a wealth of information at the mere touch of your fingertips – plus, you know, Tumblr and Youtube and Facebook, all of which are highly important. There are also tons of blogs and blog commenters, many of whom choose to mask their identities. On the internet, there are many reasons people stay anonymous, some nice and some not so nice – as you will see.

    1. THEY ARE SCARED

Some people are scared to say what they think but still want freedom of speech. However, because they don’t want to risk offending anyone as themselves, they’ll remain anonymous, or even choose a nom de plume. They will create new personas for themselves, and may portray themselves as more outgoing than they are in real life. This is one of the primary reasons people stay anonymous and, in truth, I used to do it myself when I was young!

    2. THEY ARE EMBARRASSED

In the same vein, some people are simply embarrassed of the things they want to write about and publish on the internet. It may be because they know their opinions aren’t popular with their friends, or with the majority of society. They may also be commenting on the blog or social networking site of someone they like, and they aren’t yet ready to come forward.

    3. THE INTERNET HATE MACHINE

Sadly, one of the reasons people stay anonymous is because they want to be mean, but they don’t want to hold themselves accountable or face the consequences of their actions. People bully others this way, or express their distaste in vindictive ways to people they don’t even know. This is a huge downfall to anonymity, simply because, if you don’t like what someone does or says, it’s much better to be upfront about it. Be honest rather than hiding and hurting someone else’s feelings.

  16. Saw this mentioned on the Oz reflector and just had to confirm my suspicions on the author. I was in Skywaves years ago till he handed over control to some prat who promptly deleted the group, think that says all you need to know about his judgement.

This bloke shows all the classic symptoms of being bi-polar (in fact one his so called mates posted as such in one of the MW groups) so the best thing to do is sit back and have a laugh at his expense. FWIW before my folks emigrated they were and in fact still are proud to be called Scousers, fortunately I didn't inherit their accent, or the northern shoulder chip.

  19. The group moderators must take a share of the blame to allow such comments in the first place they must know you are unstable and will go at the slightest provocation you are not solely to blame on that . You must understand the point of view of someone from the outside looking in you are modded for a day or two then all is fine again until the next outburst that's why the comments are coming in about a free reign in the group and i dare you to say that does not happen you have done it on numerous occasions and the messages are conveniently deleted by the moderators

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ah, so I am unstable. That explains it. Thank you Peter.

  21. I think you are all being mean and horrible, John is a brilliant DXer and could out DX all of you, even from inside a wardrobe.

  22. Gentlemen, How is John coping! This is like being savaged by a group of irate hamsters!

Amusing how those who shout loudest about how Skywaves is irrelevant and low quality are glued to both it and this blog.

Nice to see the usual faces on here trolling.

Have you chaps thought of masturbation as a way to relieve stress? Perhaps form a mens group? Get together, compare fake recordings and logs, have a bit of a group tug, oops I mean hug.

VK3PPE you must be a leading light in the Aussie DX scene, not even a listing on QRZ.COM or a single return on your callsign from Google. You must be the antipodean invisible man.

    Love you all.

    Deirdre.

  23. This is better than Coronation Street (which the Aussies love btw). I am so pleased and flattered that you found this interesting enough to make it the highlight of your day on ICDX. It must have given you a well needed 'lift' from all that winter tedium. Please keep this going.

  24. Just had a look at that Skywaves group on yahoo, http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/SkywavesDX/

Over 4000 messages since the start of May.

Since we don't have all the numbers for 2013 lets look at 2012.

ICDX had a massive 373 posts (of a very high quality no doubt) while poor old Skywaves limped along with only 8275 posts.

Skywaves has 406 members (plus all the ex members reading obviously) while ICDX has 155.

I think it's time that Skywaves realised its failings and took a few pointers on how to run a DX forum from all these ICDX chaps who seem to be doing so much better.

  25. Is Lille up half a bar as usual,Deirdre?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh dear. Another one who has been brainwashed by the great Sir Todd. "If it's less than 800 miles away then it's not DX". Good luck with that one.

I see Tom's post "Is Lille up half a bar as usual,Deirdre?" was deleted. I'm sure you know that all posts end up in my inbox, even if they are deleted. I'll be happy to fill you all in with the deleted ones so be careful what you write.

Predictably, you're also a Coward Peter. I guess you are another of these great Australians? You are a credit to your great country if so. Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are deflecting from the answer everyone wants to hear . If anyone posted abuse they would be immediately banned but not you and you keep getting away with it . No i am not Australian i am from the UK now please answer the question Peter

    ReplyDelete
  28. You would have to put that question to a moderator. People think I am a moderator myself but I have nothing to do with that side anymore. I do not have a voice in any matters of moderation.

I do know that any abusive member would be put on moderation immediately and given a warning. I am also know that each case would be looked at individually, based on the facts at the time. People might be given one more chance, several chances or perhaps be banned outright, based on those facts. It's obviously not going to be that black and white.

For your information I am on moderation myself right now. In my own group? How ironic is that? That's fine by me.

Since it was discussed above, Skywaves never has, and never will, discriminate on distance, country, experience, ability, equipment or any other factor as is done in some other DX clubs and forums. So maybe you will find somebody reporting reception of a station in their neighbouring town. You might find people reporting Lille up in strength by a gnat's codpiece (which is an indication of potentially enhanced conditions, is it not?) and there will be all manner of posts made by everybody from novices to so-called 'experts'. That's because we do not discriminate. Thankfully most groups take this approach as the newcomers of today are our future. We all started somewhere.

    ENcouragement, not DIScouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In 2012 ICDX had 4.5% of Skywaves posts and these girl guides think they are qualified to say what everyone else should be throwing on the barbie hahahaha.

Ladies come come, you read all the Skywaves posts too and you know well that a wide variety of subjects are covered - apart from short range UK tropo. Which actually has its place too.

See, what you all should have a think about is the effect your combined attitudes have on others. Plenty of Aussies have left ICDX because of the penis size to antenna length ratio psychosis going on there. And having someone captain the boat who has the gall to define what DX is well, that's why the dinghy is taking in so much water girls.

That 4.5% is really going to your heads.

It has been noted with some amusement that you and your hangers on (the fools, fakers and fantasists) are not only a joke in Europe (for those with eyes open) but also here in North America where your abusive and superior attitudes have been felt right up to the top of our hobbys food chain. Bad form ladies.

It's almost as if ICDX and pals are the radio equivalent of colonial Australia - a holding zone. The upshot to this is more than welcome of course. No one cares about your circle jerk and no one else gets to see it.

Keep dreaming the dream 4.5% is something to be proud of.

  33. "You are deflecting from the answer everyone wants to hear" - "Peter"

Actually Peter, no, everyone doesn't want to hear, they are too busy taking part in a very successful DX forum which in 2012 had 22 times the traffic of ICDX.

Keep shouting from the margins. I'm sure someone on the periphery will be impressed.

    K. Oalabear, Alice Springs.

  34. "K. Oalabear" of Alice Springs,

I take great umbrage at your use of one of my relatives names. While I agree entirely with the content of your post I don't appreciate the impersonation. Please desist.

It's well known that Mr. Oalabear is taking a break from internet activity after the stress of having to read all 373 ICDX posts of 2012 caused something of a breakdown.

Don't get me wrong, Mr. Oalabear is as mentally capable as any other ICDX member but extenuating forces came to bear (no pun intended) that fateful night. He was caught on his roof attempting to invert his Korner in the misguided belief that Aussie DX signals arrive upside down.

    So, please show some respect.

  36. Thank you (blushes). I am surprised how many people look at it though.

It was originally intended to be a simple online diary, started due to losing so much DX information and data over the years thanks to hard drive failures and server crashes, that I decided to back up all my data by using excellent facilities like this, my website, Box, Youtube and Drive, etc.

People are human, but enough is enough. It's all been quite an eye opener and very amusing in a way. It's good to let off steam once in a while but I will probably delete these posts and block the IPs shortly. I think there is still a way to do this in the available code. There are other ways too.

Did anybody else actually have any success with the Perseids? :O)

    Enjoy the hobby all.
