Canary Islands Received In Skegness

Today I received an e-qsl from Radio Sintonia in Furteventura, the Canary Islands. My reception came at 18:35 yesterday evening, the 14th. This station is 2968 km from Skegness. Click here to listen.

Reception was weak and brief, typical of a multi-hop Es signal and I wasn't initially sure of what I was hearing. A man and a woman were talking in Spanish on 88.0 MHz and my curiosity was around as it didn't sound like the usual RNE5 which is frequently heard on that frequency here. Thankfully, their PI code of E399 popped up on the RDS Spy display. On checking the audio stream on Radio Sintonia's website it appeared that the man and woman talking there were the same.

Thanks to the help of Juan Antonio Arranz in Spain, who listened to my recording of the audio, he confirmed that the presenter's accents were correct for the Canary Islands and that they were discussing a local news story.

Finally, I sent an email to Radio Sintonia and they wrote back in less than two hours to confirm that my recording was indeed of their station.

I hardly do QSLing these days, but for something much less common like this I try to make the effort. I could reminisce about years ago when i used to receive those printed QSL cards and confirmation written on official letterheads, but emailing makes this so much easier.

Hola.

He oído esta noticia:
