** Personal first

This might just be the best day of E skip I have experienced. There aren't many loggings but I am only logging personal firsts at the moment, or stations of particular interest for one reason or another.

Much of the time, signals were strong and there were so many. So much so that RDS became impossible. Even the huge signals from my nearby Peterborough FM transmitter were compromised during this all-day opening. All local radio stations were obliterated. The band became noise for a lot of the time, or 'soup', as many like to call it.

The opening began well before I was up and about and I wasn't aware of anything happening until almost 09:00. Spain, Italy, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco kicked things off. France and Corsica followed. Iceland and Sweden came in next before quickly switching back to Italy and Spain, etc. The Balkans came in around midday with Hungary, Romania, Albania, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Serbia. Then Austria appeared. Greeece popped in and out later in the afternoon. No doubt I have missed out one or two countries in this, but the DX did not stop for a second throughout the day, running into the late evening.

A surprise tropo started after 20:00 to Denmark and the Schleswig-Holstein region of Germany. Several Danish transmitters reached full RDS. What was unusual about the German tropo was that only low power stations were present with the higher power transmitters from that region either absent or considerably weaker than the lower-powered stuff. I have never come across this before. I know that certain tropo events allow low powered DX to proliferate while others only seem to allow the big transmitters to get through, so why this event should have allowed only the smaller transmitters through I have no idea, but I am not complaining.

Work had to take precedence for part of the day but I still had time for more than my fill.

Even when I returned to the band at 23:00 to check the tropo, I just had to accept that I wasn't going to hear it as Spain had returned with reewed avengeance and killit off completely. Oh well. I cannot complain.

Good DX!
